MJ and I traveled up to Oxford on the train on Wednesday to attend an open day on the Thursday. The hotel we were meant to stay at had developed an electrical fault and had to close down while repairs are carried out so we had to stay somewhere else ![]()
Anyway the open day was great! We had a look around Keble College in the morning and had lunch in the dining hall there. We spent the rest of the day in the Physics department on various tours. I am slightly nerdy, so I was amazed to see an experiment using lasers to trap a cloud of atoms - They are hoping within the next year to get to the stage where they can manipulate single atoms!

The photos I took of the college were just with my phone so they don't really do it justice - It's a fantastic building!
I want to go on more open days now. I think MJ might be applying to Durham as well, so I might get another trip soon!
I'd love to see that dalek! lol!-

lol well your phone did good job

ooh that'd be a nice one to go to visit! Quite a way away to go, too!
I wish I had taken a picture of the dalek
But my neighbour has a full sized one too

To be honest, I don't know exactly where Durham is... Somewhere up north, and as you say, a long way!
Your neighbour has a full-sized dalek? lol! What's that for?-
- Saturday, 30. Jun, 2007 @ 11:27:09
lol all I know is that its Newcastle way and my Aunt used to live there!!
My neighbour is a huge Dr Who fan and has a full sized Tardis as well as the dalek in his garden
He's a comic book artist and even used to draw a Dr Who comic strip

Oh yeah, that sounds about right!
Blimey, a tardis as well! lol! I might try and catch up with the latest Dr Who episodes. I haven't seen any of them...-
- Saturday, 30. Jun, 2007 @ 11:32:31
lol it even has a flashing light and plays the theme tune

The new Dr Who are quite good
The latest series is much better than the last couple though

Wow! That sounds cool. I'm guessing it can't travel through time though... Shame. Did you see the website of that man who converted his flat into a replica of the inside of the Starship Enterprise?

lol As far as I know it just sits at the bottom of his garden!
I didn't hear about that! I think he must have been into Star Trek a bit much

Cool thing to have at the bottom of our garden though. I guess there must be a few old Police boxes around the country - all in Dr Who fans' garden's! lol
You can take a virtual tour of that star trek guys flat here - It's pretty amazing!

He probably just teleports it in when he's thirsty and teleports it back out when he's finished - Keeps down on the clutter

hi,
you can't imagine how much I envy you for having been in Oxford, I dream of studying there but I can't because I am studying in France and later I will have to do translation studies and not sure this is possible to find this type of school in England or somewhere else in Great Britain. I am addicted to the British attitude: all I wear is tartan clothes or that type!!! I dream to be british!!!! lucky you are guys you don't have sarkozy at the head of the state!-

Well, I love France!
Don't really know too much about Sarkozy, but I guess you don't like him much. Now that Tony Blair has stepped down we have a boring Prime Minister, Gordon Brown!

Ooh looks nice!! I'd have been fascinated too! I missed all my open days and would have loved to see all the demos!! At Reading they have a full sized dalek that emerges for demos on open days
