Thought I´d better do something at least a little cultured and I am quite interested in all this pre-unification stuff so I went down to the DDR (GDR) museum opposite the Berliner Dom. They go right through the history of the DDR from the early sixties to the collapse of the wall at the end of the eighties. There is a diverse collection of items collected from the era, but rather than being locked up in glass cabinets you can pick everything up and look through it, not that it was much use to me. I didn´t realise quite how controlling the state was over people and right up until the late eighties! A bit spooky if you ask me...

I guess so... Maybe more harsh though? The Stasi had literally thousands of spies looking out for people stepping out of line - You didn´t want those buggers knocking on the door, by the sounds of it!

See recent Olymipic feats such as:
How many innocent citizens can we force to sit in the audience
How many equally innocent citizens can we ram into jail for no apparent reason
And my personal fave:
You, you are not asthetically pleasing, you may sing the song but we'll get someone else for the miming, if you tell anyone you sang the song you will be shot, clear?-

Oh no, did they make people attend the events?! I didn´t realise that. I obviously heard about the singing girl fiasco - pretty awful if you ask me.
