After a fantastic dinner in the Italian restaurant next door I met up with Tom, Milan and Maria in Erdbeer, just a few steps from Rosa-Luxumbourg U-bahn. Slurped on a few of the strongest Long Island Iced Teas I have ever beared witness to and inexplicably proceeded to snort various flavoured snuffs at the bar. Pottered very slowly home in the wee hours...

First celebrity spot...
@ Thursday, 15. Jan, 2009 – 11:16:05
Well, I don't expect many people will know this guy but we were enjoying a well-earned beer in the bar of Kicker World after footie last night; and who should saunter in? Fredi Bobic
According to Wikipedia, he scored a hat trick in a win against Ipswich whilst on loan to Bolton in 2002, securing the Trotters status in the top flight. Ipswich were subsequently relegated and have never been seen again... -

Friedrichshain
@ Saturday, 10. Jan, 2009 – 13:00:00
Erm, got up late... again! Decided to venture somewhere new so I hopped on the U-Bahn and took a very round-about route to the centre of Friedrichshain. Walking back towards Alexanderplatz along Frankfurter Allee is quite an experience. The buildings lining either side of the street are vast and overbearing and apart from a Burger King sign barely visible in the distance you could almost convince oneself that this was still DDR.
I doubled back and wandered down Boxhaganer Straße and Simon-Dach Straße and excellent bakery just outside Frankfurter Tor U-Bahn. Furnished with banana bread and walnut bread I began my journey home on the U8.

Friday Five...
@ Friday, 09. Jan, 2009 – 12:24:07
1. Is it time to change the name of the "mobile phone" as they are now more than just a phone?
Perhaps, they call them 'Handys' here in Germany
2. Do you take your mobile phone on holiday with you?
Yes, I usually switch it off but keep it within reach in case of emergencies.3. If your phone runs out of battery life is it a mishap or the most worst thing that can happen... ever?!
Tis a mishap, unless you happen to know that there is a message on there telling you the precise location of your friends but you cannot access that message because the battery is out... and you have to make a one hour round trip back home to plug your phone in to read aformentioned message...4. If they're not playing the latest chart topper then it's some other electronic rubbish so is it wrong to say "I'll give you a ring!" when phones don't actually ring these days?
No.5. Complete this sentence "My mobile phone is..."
slightly irritating. -

I have finally discovered the joys of Skype! Tis a wonderful thing if you're working abroad and need to chat to folks back in the UK, and it's completely free! Need to change the settings though as I keep getting unwanted requests!

Deutsch
@ Friday, 09. Jan, 2009 – 11:09:41
My efforts to learn this language, that I have never been bothered about before, began on Monday night. I've joined a complete beginners class at GLS on Kastanianallee in which there is just me and an Israeli guy called Roy. My teacher, Jeremias, is an amiable enough fellow, and a native which I'm pleased about. So far we have covered the alphabet, basic greetings and the verbs 'sein' und 'haben' and a couple more regular verbs. Being a swat, I have already completed mein hausaufgabe für näschte woche and I believe it is all correct
Sehr gut!

Emil
@ Friday, 09. Jan, 2009 – 10:59:04
So, a little place called Emil's just off Friedrichstraße had the pleasure of a band of English-speakers' company last night. I bet they'd never seen such a busy Thursday night! Later on we moved to another interesting little bar called The Speakeasy where we played poker and drank beer until the wee hours. I managed to win 50 Euros so I am now planning to treat myself to something fun...

@ Monday, 05. Jan, 2009 – 14:42:46
Well, I am finally back in Berlin after a two week Christmas break back in Canterbury. Having failed to take my Mac back with me and after cancelling my Broadband subscription in the UK I have been unable scrawl anything on here for a few weeks, so a flurry of back-posting will ensue over the next few days...
